[Sangla - Himachal Pradesh]
2680m
A couple of days earlier I was riding over a rough road passing over 3223m when my clutch cable broke and I had to ride the last 10kms into town with out a clutch. Luckily at the time I was riding with 2 other Enfield riders- one guy found a hotel for us and the other stopped at an intersection with a blind corner and waved me through because I couldnt stop.
The last few kms upto Sangla I was caught in a dust storm that didnt lift my mood. I was already a bit grumpy cos I missed my turn by quite a few kms and had to re-ride a bad stretch of road. (and bad in India means incredibly crap in the west).

[On the Road - Indian Himalayas]
Despite the chilled out scene here in Mcleod Ganj and the great coffee houses... something is telling me to journey on. Its not really a logical thought but more of an impulse I need to follow.
So on the 27th May I will start touring on my Enfield heading east, going into the Kinnaur & Spiti Valley, literally a stone throw away from the Tibetan border, and then north into Ladakh. This is the highest regions of the Himalayas in India and at one point the road passes over 5600m. Needless to say its going to be an adventure and then some.
For the most part there is no Internet access, so when I do get back to the lower regions to be sure I will be posting those breath taking photos! (with an odd story or two to tell :)

[My stroke of insight]
An exceptional short video with Jill Bolte Taylors that deserved the standing ovation at the end of her talk. Beautiful.

[Back in MG - North India]
Back in Mcleod Ganj, the home to the Dali Lama and the foot hills of the Himalayas. Its back to winter woollens again!
And it also here where I was reunited with my Royal Enfield motorcycle. After 3 months sitting in a friends garage she started on first kick. A happy reunion to be sure :-)
Plan to spend around a month here, waiting for it to get warmer and the snow to melt. Then I am off touring on my motorcycle the higher regions of the Himalayas..

[Bangkok Again - Thailand]
3 days in Bangkok was enough to do my head in. It is a very comfortable city, but there are much nicer places to be in Thailand than the capital. By having to organise my Indian visa and a ticket to Calcutta, I found the city to be, besides hot and humid, painfully slow to get around.
Escaped to the coolness of the north to the small village of Pai. (where I was in Dec-Jan). Fly to Calcutta on the 22nd.

[Angkor Wat, Siam Reap - North Cambodia]
Angkor Wat is to Cambodia what the pyramids is to Egypt, Taj Mahal to India etc. The Angkor temple was originally built based on the Hindu belief system and thus, to no surprise, looks like one of the many temples I have seen in India.
Thankfully, my $20US day ticket enabled me to visit the numerous other Buddhist and Hindu temples in the region. By far my favourite is Ta Prohm, a well known temple because it is slowly being taken over- tree roots severe and divide the temple rocks showing the true long term power of nature. Damn hot here, and as the temples were once lost to the jungle, its still wonderfully green and shaded.
On the 7th March its back to Bangkok, Thailand.
